Bourdon tube manometer

Eugène Bourdon invented in 1849 the Bourdon tube manometer. Nowadays is the most common mechanic measurement system of high-pressure measurement (between 0,4 bar and 6000 bar) and consist in a metal tube, and consisting of a metal, flattened, sealed tube, closed at one end and spirally wound that expands when increasing the internal pressure.

Mr. Bourdon founded the French expert in manufacturing manometers Bourdon, which later merged to be called BOURDON SEDEME and now belongs to the Swiss Baumer group.

Sensotec Instruments is been distributing from the 80s, the prestigious brand in Spain and Portugal. Sensotec Instruments has the Bourdon tube manometers for the measurement od relative pressure in the ranges compressed 400 mbar and 1600 bar. hey can also measure vacuum range -1 a 0 bar (-760 mm Hg).

The most frequent models are the series MEX (MEX2, MEX3, MEX5), MIX (MIX7), MIT (MIT3) y MIM.

Other specific characteristics of spherical manometers are:

  • Material. The parts in contact with the fluid and other parts of the mechanism and case may be built in different materials. Stainless steel is the most common although we also have devices made of brass or Monel.
  • Diameter of the sphere. We have small manometers with graded spheres of 40 mm to large equipment with 250 mm diameter sphere. The most common in industrial applications are diameter 63 mm, 100 mm and 150 mm.
  • Accuracy. The standard devices accuracy is 1% FE (max error of 1% of the scale) sand we have available options and manometers with accuracy of 0,5%, FE 0,25% FE and 0,1% FE.
  • Connection. El racor de conexión a proceso can be from 1/8” to ½” in GAS (BSP) or NPT.
  • Installation. The devices may have different shape that determine their situation in the installation:

Vertical output manometer for direct installation

Manometer back output (back side of the box) for direct installation (are based exclusively on the same connection fitting)

Manometer with vertical output (bottom of the case) with back support for wall mounting. They are used when the media se realiza a distancia del proceso.

Manometer back output (back side of the box) for installation in panel. They are used when the measurement is done They are used when the measurement is done form distance integrated into a board or panel. They have a front plate or flanges for mounting on the neck of a panel.

Manómetros de cápsula

The system allows measurement in low pressures where the Bourdon tube ins not sensible enough to work.

In this case the sensible element is built by two thin waved walls, joined with a laser welding.  The case is deformable under the effect of pressure. This deformation acts over the mechanism, moving the needle in the centre of the sphere.

Sensotec Instruments has case manometers for ranges comprised between the 10 mbar and the 600 mbar in positive pressures (relative pressure) or negative (vacuum).

The most usual models corresponds to the series MTA, MTX, MCX
